What’s on in 2011

Vienna is renowned as the city of music and has an enormous cultural heritage. One thing that you probably didn’t know about Vienna is that is has the highest waterfall in Europe, located in Krimml Falls and measures 1,250 feet. Now, here are some of this summer’s events and festivals:

 

1. Opera live on the Square

 

This event comes perfectly for everyone that didn’t manage to get tickets to the Opera before. Vienna’s State Opera House performances are displayed on a big screen in open-air, at Herbert von Karajan Square. Go ahead and revel in Viennese cultural manifestation with Opera Live on the Square.

2. Vienna City Festival

 

The Vienna City Festival various themes are crazy comedy, entertainment on street, parties, theatre and more. The Festival brings close to a jazz mixture.

3. Festival for Fashion and Photography

 

The local talents and foreign designers reveal their contemporary creations at Vienna’s Festival for Fashion & Photography. The entire city of Vienna is studded with fashion shows that are accompanied by photography expositions and the magazine industry. Austria Fashion Awards takes part in the show.

4. Vienna Festival

 

International arts troupes appear on stage to do their number on shows like theatre, world music and everything in between at the cultural locations in Vienna. A free open-air concert opens the Festival at the Town Hall.

5. Vienna Jazz Festival

 

Venues like Town Hall square, nightclubs, The State Opera House are honored with the presence of known jazz, blues and soul bands performing at one of the most coveted Jazz Festivals in Europe. Marianne Faithfull and Bryan Ferry are among the scheduled artists for 2011.

6. Music Film Festival

An outdoor immense screen, right near Town Hall on Vienna’s Rathausplatz square, brings close to you a wide range spectacle of opera, dance, world music, ballet and jazz. You can even grab a snack to have during the screening, at international food stalls, so you can totally lose yourself in the show.

7. Danube Island Festival

 

Danube Island is brought to life by the sounds of Viennese popular music on open-air stages at Danube Island Festival.  Don’t forget to taste the food made by local chefs so you can get the full flavor of the popular Viennese culture.
