€€ Cheap restaurants

There are a lot of restaurants in Vienna where you can get a decent meal for about 10 Euros, including drinks. Many restaurants in the area around the university offer lunch menus for a fixed price, often with a soup, and a small dessert. If you’re there, don’t miss out on the Wiener Deewan Pakistani all-you-can-eat pay-as-you-wish restaurant. You can find more information about it in the very cheap eats section. Lunch arrangements are very common in many restaurants all over the city, yet the greater university area is the best location for getting a very good value for your money somewhat close to the tourist attractions.
Die burgermeister (Burggasse 12, Wien)
Fancy a burger? Skip the golden arches and try Babsi and Jan’s homemade-style, organic burgers that are made from the freshest ingredients. They even make the ketchup from scratch and the fries are handcut. Their menu is fairly small- they offer a couple of options for both omnivores and vegetarians. Throughout the year, the menu is varied and seasonal ingredients are used, for instance mushrooms in fall and herbs in spring. You might even get blue fries,if you happen to eat there in the right season. This restaurant is really close to Museumsquartier and a good place to refuel after a museathon there.

Centimeter
Another very intriguing restaurant concept. Many meals come in special formats like shovels, hacks, etc. Sandwiches can be had in intervals of 5 cm (length-wise). There also is a meter of spaghetti that will feed three or four, or two meters of sausage to feed even the most hungry of all budget travelers. Portions are big, the names very creative (Have you ever had a mixed shovel before?), and the meals are hearty. Tt’s mostly Austrian plain fare with lots of meat. There are vegetarian options, too, but not too many.
Centimeter is a good place to have a drink, as well. Beer is served in a column for you to draft yourself, and drinks such as “1 meter from the lab“ and “No thanks, I really can’t right now, maybe later…“ will get you in the right mood to take on the rest of the city.

Selbstverständlich – half price on Saturday until about 7 or 8
This restaurant mostly offers traditional Austrian fare, from all parts of the coutry like Carinthia, the wine district, and others. While the dishes are very reasonably priced, the specials on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are the biggest draw to come here. On Saturday, there is a 50% discount on all dishes from noon until the early evening. On Sundays and public holidays, they also offer a special three-course menu for only 6 Euros while supplies last.

Mr. Lee ASIA WORLD
A potpourri of pan-Asian couisine (Malaysian, Japanese, Hong Kong chinese, Thai, and Indonesians) prepared by six cooks from the respective countries. The kitchen area is within the restaurant and you can watch while the food is made. Don’t be put off by the setting and the business guests. Albeit the restaurant is located on the ring and draws a professional crowd, you can still get a great meal for about 10 Euros here. The lunch specials are great, a three-course menu with a soup, main dish, and dessert is served then. Around this time of the day, Mr. Lee’s place is very popular with university students, after all the university is right across the street.

Schnitzelwirt
A visit to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without having Viennese Schnitzel at least once. After all, Schnitzel is said to have been invented in this city! This rustique restaurant boasts to have the biggest and best ones in the entire city- they might very well be right about that. The portions are big and the food is simple, traditional Austrian fare, yet very savory. Since this restaurant is close to the Museumsquartier, it is a good place to come to after seeing lots of different exhibitions and relax a little. There are Vegetarian options, as well.
