Nightlife

In comparison to other cities, Vienna certainly isn’t the party capital of Europe. It doesn’t take much to admit that. Yet, that doesn’t mean that the Viennese don’t like to celebrate at all. There still is something for every taste, whether you just want to hang out with your travel companions, listen to some life music, dance until the early morning, or get completely wasted for very little money. A good way to combine most of these categories are the student parties in town. Apart from that, there are several distinct districts or areas for partying.

Additionally, Vienna boasts cultural riches- there are numerous theaters, two operas, and lots of options to see a cabaret show all over town.

Student parties
Most student parties are organized by different faculties and draw the respective crowd. At most of the parties, drinks are cheap, there are many specials at different hours, and it’s very easy to meet people. Usually music for everybody to agree on is played, but that doesn’t lower the enthusiasm for dancing and celebrating, at all.

A good source for upcoming student parties is www.heimfest.at where almost all of the upcoming events are listed.

Bermudadreieck/ Bermuda triangle
The legendary Bermuda triangle rightfully earned its name. There is a high density of bars there and some people have „disappeared“ there after a night of drinking or wonder how exactly they got there last night and home afterwards. Bars there cater to all musical tastes and serve cheap drinks. Some of them are located in interesting underground locations, in basements with vaulted ceilings and unfinished brick walls. Places to go dancing after you’ve warmed up are close by.

Stadtbahnbögen
This area is easily accessible by metro, since it’s acually underneath the U6 line. In the area underneath the art déco arches the metro is running on, there are several bars and clubs next to another. This is a perfect place to go barhopping, listen to some life music, and then head to one of the clubs there. Again, this area caters to many different tastes, but you’ll find a lot of university students there. Increasingly, this area is developing into the most popular area for going out in Vienna.

1st district
The 1st district has it all. Besides the infamous Bermuda Triangle, there are lots of different clubs, bars, wine bars, coffee houses that are still open after midnight, and the most posh locations to celebrate at. You can easily spend more than 10 Euros for a drink in this area, but also find some of the most economical options for partying.
(U1,U3 Stephansplatz)

7th district
The 7th disctrict is what you could call the creative and hip area of Vienna. In this district, you can find some of the most innovative bars with creative concepts and most fashionable people to hang out with. There are several very individualistic locations, with creative decorum at rather surprising locations. Go there for a special experience, to see creativity applied, and watch the cool crowd party.

Donauinsel
During summertime, the atmosphere here is fantastic. You can sit close to the Danube river, have a cocktail and enjoy the mild summer nights in Vienna.
