Vienna offers history, culture and more
History, architecture, music and more are available for travellers to Vienna, Austria. Vienna is the largest city in, and capital of, Austria, and serves as the cultural and political centre of the country.
Museums are a main attraction in Vienna, and the beautiful city offers something for everyone, even those looking for cheap holidays. The Museum District, or Museumsquartier, has been the centre of culture in the city since 2001. In addition to museums, the area also offers a number of cafes, shops and more. Combination tickets to a number of different museums are available at the Museumsquartier (MQ), including the Leopold Museum and MUMOK. Another point that few tourists miss is the Mozart House, which was the Viennese residence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The house is now a branch of the Vienna Museum.
Someone looking for an adventure that features the area’s stunning architecture should trek no further than the Schonbrunn Palace, which is located just outside the city. The Schonbrunn Palace has been on the UNSECO World Heritage List since 1996, and is a large tourist draw because of its beautifully designed palace, park full of architecture, fountains, statues and even the oldest Baroque zoo in the world.
Another excellent stop for architecture and culture is Ringtrasse, an area with a variety of different architectural styles. While architecture is a focal point for many tourists, others visit Ringtrasse to enjoy “underground Vienna” and its culture of night clubs, shops and other attractions.
There are also many options available for those who want a more structured look at Vienna. Many companies offer guided tours of the city for travellers who may be too overwhelmed and want to see the high points of the area. One of the most popular tours is the Vienna Explorer, which allows travellers to view the city by foot, on bikes or even on Segway’s. Tours full of adventure are supposed to start up soon, and the company already offers wine tasting tours.
One activity that comes highly recommended is for a traveller to not spend as much time inside the museums and palaces as outside just experiencing the city. While much of the city’s culture can be found indoors, the true nature of Vienna cannot be experienced within four walls. Take time to walk around Vienna to see the sights and hear the sounds. Watch the locals dressed as Mozart walking the streets giving out brochures and take time to listen to the music in the streets.
No matter what attractions are visited, Vienna will charm every traveller. Take some time to research the city and all it has to offer prior to visiting in order to get the most out of a wonderful experience.
