Rapid Vienna was founded in 1899. From 1899 to 1911 the Rapid Vienna was the top flight of Austria. Rapid Vienna has won their first football league in 1912. In 1918-19 Rapid Vienna was the first team who has won the Austrian Cup in the season. This was the first workers football team in Vienna. During the year between the world war, Rapid Vienna was the best team in European football. Rapid Vienna played Gauliga Ostmark with the teams like First Vienna and Admira Vienna. Rapid Vienna was the most successful team of this club. Rapid Vienna won the Tschammerpokal (Today’s German Cup) in 1938. Rapid Vienna was topped with a German Championship in 1941. The Players of Rapid Vienna known as Rapidgiest or Rapid Spirit. Till 1977, Rapid Vienna was played in Pfarrwiese, the remained home. After that Rapid Vienna moved in newly constructed stadium named Weststadion. It was just a stone throw away.
Stadium “Weststadion” has renamed as “Gerhard Hanappi” in the name of its designer in 1981. This is based in Hutteldorf in the city Penzing. Rapid Vienna now plays at the stadium called Gerhard Hanappi Stadium. The stadium opened for match with FK Austria on 10th May 1977. Rapid Vienna is the record title holder in Austria including Vienna. Rapid Vienna have won 32 times the Austrian Championship title. Rapid Vienna has a huge fan mail. The Club is famous for the applaud in every single game for motivated for the final 15 minutes by their fans. Rapid Vienna is dedicated for their representation. The players of Rapid Vienna are known as the “Green Whites”.
